The Colorado Springs Police Department uses the NPST by FPSI for their written exam
Learn what questions are on the NPST entry-level police exam and what the top-rated NPST test prep course is. The National Police Select Test (NPST) is a police written exam published by FPSI (Fire & Police Selection, Inc.) It is also referred to as the FPSI Police Written exam. The test is used to measure candidates’ ability to effectively work with the public and other members of their department in addition to reading comprehension, writing ability, mathematical reasoning, and reasoning/analyzing skills.
Readers should take note that there are many different entry-level police exams used in the U.S. Even though this test title includes the word “national,” there is NO national standard for police testing.
Questions Included on the NPST Police Exam
You must prepare for the NPST in order to get hired.
The NPST police test includes 120 questions and you will have 3 hours to complete the test.
Basic MAth
Basic stuff - add, subtract, multiple and divide.
Reading COMPREHENSION
Traditional multiple choice reading test with a twist. Your agency will send you a twenty (20) page “Reading Comprehension Manual” that you are required to study for one to two weeks prior to your exam.
Reasoning and Analysis
Judgement, Problem Solving and Data Interpretation
Writing Ability
You will be tested on your ability to correct wording, grammar, spelling, punctuation as well as ease of understanding.
Human Relations/Situational Judgment
This section contains questions designed to measure your ability to work under stressful conditions, integrity, ethics, decision-making, self-control, the ability to maintain confidentiality, interpersonal skills, teamwork, ability to follow rules, demonstrating respect for others
